Mission Statement
Our year around goal is to provide an environment where children, students and adults are able to hear and respond to the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. During our summer months our program philosophy focuses on essential elements of the Christian faith:
- Worship
- Discipleship
- Evangelism
- Ministry
- Fellowship
Each participant is challenged to grow in their own personal relationship with Christ, to develop meaningful friendships with other believers, and to unify as a mobilized body of believers (the church). We prayerfully and carefully consider who we invite as our Camp Pastor, Worship Leaders and camp staffers each summer. Join us as we pray together for each participant in this ministry and as we help build up the body of Christ through a strong camp ministry plan.
About Us
In 1951 a committee was appointed by the new Craig-Mayes Baptist Association to find a location for a camp. Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Armstrong donated 10 acres in Disney, Oklahoma. First Baptist Disney donated the adjoining acres on the west side. Grand River Dam Authority leased to GCBA, for one dollar, ten acres on the east side making a total of twenty-three acres. In 1952 a group of pastors and boys from several churches in Craig-Mayes Baptist Association had a camp on what is now Green Country Baptist Assembly campgrounds. They camped in tents, cooked, and ate in the basement of First Baptist Disney. Cabins and buildings began to be built. In 1953 was the first official camp. In 1960 Craig-Mayes Baptist Association voted to invite Rogers Baptist Association to join in the ownership of the camp. The kitchen and dining hall were built in 1954. This is the same building in use today. The old tabernacle was built in 1959.
In 2003, celebrating 50 years of camp, the trustees voted unanimously to build a new tabernacle, dining hall, and remodel the old dorm into 12 motel style rooms for lodging. The new eight thousand square foot tabernacle with a seating capacity of over six hundred was completed in 2005. The new dining hall is the next major building project that MUST be built. Our present dining hall can only hold one hundred and sixty people, and each week of camp averages over 250 kids. The kids end up eating outside or waiting in line to eat. We now have four weeks of preteen camp, and one week of youth camp. The last thirty-six years we have kept record of over 25,000 kids and youth that have attended camp in Disney. In the last 36 years there have been over 5,000 decisions for Christ Jesus made on this beautiful campground.
In the last two years, Memorial Heights Baptist Church built a new eighty bed cabin. First Baptist Salina plans to build a new cabin in the fall of 2008. Other churches are in the planning stages to upgrade or build new cabins.
